The field has invested deeply in making agents capable. It has invested almost nothing in making them safe, accountable, and operable.

Production AI systems are distributed systems. They have all the same failure modes as any other distributed system, plus new ones: non-determinism, confidence bounds, authority ambiguity. They need the same primitives distributed systems figured out decades ago: explicit authority, transactional side-effects, durability, auditability, safe evolution.

Those primitives don't exist in agent frameworks today. We build them. A system that cannot be safely stopped is not safe to run fast.
